Nathan set to have throat surgery

Nathan has a nodule on his vocal cordthe same condition which threatened Adele's career. He will undergo surgery on his birthday (thur) in LA to save his voice. As we know Nathan battled with throat issues for a while but after an appointment with a specialist he was told to undergo surgery immediately.

The Wanted's publicist released an official statement:

'We can confirm that The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday April 18 in Los Angeles and as such will be taking an unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted.
"The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible. The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.'

This operation means that Nathan will not be able to speak or sing for a month. Ruling him out from recording sessions for the new album and possibly Live at the Marquee Cork. He will take a break from the band to aid his recovery. It will take time for Nathan to be able to sing properly again.

What is a nodule?
Nodules is a lump which forms on vocal chords/in the throat. They are rarely cancerous and are easily removed.
Causes
Common causes are constant singing - especially rich tones or sustained notes, excessive talking, and smoking.

Operation
The operation is only minor surgery and it does not last long. An operation is a last resort and is normally avoided if possible. Following surgery, it is recommended the patient rests their voice for at least one month. Only in extreme cases does it mean the patient can not sing again.

After the Op
After the operation, patients are usually given speech therapy to help them speak and sing again. Some singers are never able to hold long notes again and may find they have an altered or restrained pitch.
Some singers are unable to 'find' notes. Some patients undergo psychotherapy.

We wish Nathan the best of luck with his surgery and a speedy recovery
